New features for Cloud Drop

We have rolled out a new version for Cloud Drop for storing your Sales Force files. In the latest version for better file management you can assign your files into 2 categories – private and public. You can share the files that are categorized as public with your clients and customers by sending the file URL which they can click on to view the content. If you want you can keep them as private meaning that the files would only be accessible via your Sales Force account.

This release also has a new page that captures the file details like – name, description, keywords used for searching the file, access type i.e. if it is a public or a private and the URL for accessing the file which of course would be hidden in case of private files.

As we continue to improve this application please feel free to submit a support request or share ideas/comments. For scheduling a demo please email us at info@mansasys.com

Rackspace Cloud Files – A technology glance

RackSpace has partnered with Akamai Technologies for leveraging their CDN for Cloud Files. These files can be managed with accelerated speeds via any control panel, API’s or through 3rd party software. Once the file is uploaded, an intelligent algorithm makes copies of your file on 3 different devices and 2 distinct locations of the datacenter. Each location of the datacenter uses different power and network connections so you know that your data is safe & secure.

Once a cloud file is uploaded by a user, a copy of that files is saved on a local server of that location so anytime the file is accessed, the access time is drastically reduced. With over 73,000 servers in 70 countries the Akamai CDN solution has proven to be faster and reliable than any comparable online storage provider like Amazon S3.

For users there is no change in how they would access the Akamai CDN except for faster download and upload speeds for your Cloud Files.

Akamai Technologies have some well known fortune 500 companies like Yahoo, Research in Motion, Dow Chemical Company, IBM Corp., General Motors, Sony Erricson in addition to the Department of Defense and Food & Drug Administration.

Rackspace partnership with Akamai: A challenge for Amazon S3

Rackspace, providers of hosting and cloud computing solutions, have partnered with Akamai Technologies, industry leader in accelerating delivery of content & applications over the internet. This new partnership would mean that Rackspace users would now be able to leverage the proven Content Delivery Network (CDN) of Akamai Technolgies. Cloud Files of Rackspace would now be distributed via the CDN platform of Akamai that has over 73,000 servers in 70 countries as compared to the Amazon S3 & their proprietry CDN that advertizes merely 17 edge locations globally.

The founding member of OpenStack, Rackspaces’ Cloud Files are now backed with the legendary Fanatical Support of Akamai Technologies free of charge. There is no extra fee to the user for using the Akamai CDN platform, and the standard package is 15 cents/GB as compared to the 18 cents/GB for Amazon S# plus additional fee for using their proprietary CDN platform whihc would depend on your location.

In addition, Rackspace also provides hybrid infrastructure for hosting cloud products as well as dedicated servers, whereas, Amazon currently offers CDN for cloud products only & charges for their support plans.
